We want to be able to access the file system of a remote computer from our application. All transferred data must be strongly encrypted. For optimal bandwidth utilization the uploaded/downloaded files must be compressed / decomprpessed transparently during the transmission. The standard FTP protocol is too limited and slow for us. We need to have a low-level access to the remote files as they were local, and to perform more complex operations on them, like searching and zipping.
